Five Reasons to Visit New York City ASAP

Hi everyone! As those of you follow me on Instagram know, I recently made a big move from Florida to New York City for a new job and I took a short break from posting in that time but I’m back and thought this would be the perfect post to start things off with! Before moving to New York City, I had visited several times and already knew I loved it, but for the past few weeks, I have fallen even more in love with the city that never sleeps. The beauty of NYC is that there really is something for everyone. World class museums? Check. Amazing food from all over the world? Check. Great outdoor spaces? Check. Amazingly fun nightlife and world-class theatre and so much more? Check, check and check! All this considered, these are the top 5 Reasons everyone should visit New York City ASAP!

The Museums

If you’ve been reading my posts for a bit, you know by now that I’m a Museum junkie. I LOVE museums and NYC has some of the best in the world. Having studied science, the Natural History Museum is a hands down favorite of mine. There’s one amazing room with a giant Blue Whale hanging from the ceiling that is just as amazing every time I visit. If you are an art lover, NYC was made for you. The Met, the Guggenheim, MoMA, and more await you here. There are also a bunch of smaller museums throughout the city for every subject under the sun. New York City is second only to London for me in terms of great museums and well worth the trip for the museums alone!

I just want everyone to know how excited I am to be living in such close proximity to some of the best theatre on the planet. I love seeing shows on the West End when I visit London, but Broadway is in a league of its own in terms of theatre. The home of Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Mean Girls the Musical, and countless more, NYC is the place to be for theatre lovers. For some shows you may have to book your tickets months in advance, but there are also great resources like TodayTix where you can get good deals on last-minute tickets. Many of the big name shows also offer a lottery where you have the chance to win and get discounted tickets to the show. Lotteries aren’t a guarantee, but can help you get a great deal if you win.

Cultural Experiences

Love comedy? Want to wander some amazing art galleries and shows? Then it’s high time you visit New York City! NYC isn’t just home to comedy giant SNL, but there’s an endless number of comedy clubs you can visit on any given night and see great standup. As for art, it’s everywhere across the city. You can find art shows and galleries all over the city for all types of art from fashion to photography and of course paintings and sculptures. New York City is a mecca for the culture and definitely worth the visit if you love comedy or art.

A Foodie’s Paradise

Food might be my favorite thing in the world and New York City is a dream for anyone that loves food. You can find any food imaginable here and I absolutely love that. I have traveled a good amount and sometimes really miss foods I have tried, like the amazing Georgian food I could get easily in Moscow. Well being in NYC means I can easily find it! Craving amazing Jamaican food? We have that too! And my all time favorite food is definitely Mexican food and that is EVERYWHERE here! The number of amazing restaurants is insane and honestly if you love food, you really need to visit New York City as soon as possible.

The Beauty of the City

City haters may find this section odd because they are asking themselves “what’s beautiful about dirty asphalt and overcrowded streets?” Well haters, maybe you should look a bit closer. New York City is home to some absolutely stunning green spaces like Central Park, Prospect Park in Brooklyn, an amazing greenway down by the Brooklyn bridge and more! My favorite thing to do on a Saturday is to grab my favorite roundie towel and head to the park with a book and some snacks! It’s a great way to spend your day and soak up some sun! There is also NOTHING as stunning as the view of the skyline that you can get from Brooklyn rooftops. Also, there are some amazing architectural wonders in the city that should not be discounted. The city is beautiful and I don’t understand people who can’t see that!

Bonus: Tips for when You Visit New York City

  • The subway is the best way to travel the city
  • Always carry a water bottle with you because it gets quite warm in places
  • Explore the outer boroughs! Don’t just stay in Manhattan, come out to Brooklyn and see what it’s like!
  • Wear great shoes or your feet will be throbbing by the end of each day!
  • Avoid Times Square as much as possible! It’s super crowded and only really worth seeing once to say you have.
  • Try new things! Whether it’s a new type of food or a cool activity, New York City is a great place to try something new!

From one Misguided Millennial to the world, I hope you visit New York City soon and see why I love my new home so much!
